**Just throwing it out there...today is my birthday (I'm 23 - Blink-182 says no one will like me now...oh my). So, yeah...wooo birthdays!!!**
Well hello all! This blog post is part of the Writer Therapy Blog Hop! So, without further ado, my post on MY writing therapy...
You really want to know?
You sure?
Well, here's my answer. My writing therapy is...
Chocolate. Dove chocolate, to be exact.
Going to the movies, and the movie popcorn that goes along with it.
Watching TV shows that make me think, that I can't live without, and that can always keep me guessing.
Twitter...I never thought I would love Twitter as much as I do, but there you go.
Grad school in a weird way, because I've got...you know...papers to write that aren't stories.
Avoiding cleaning my part of the apartment (sorry roommates!)
MUSIC. I can't stress this enough. Ingrid Michaelson and Sara Bareilles pretty much helped me write my book(s).
Now, how do these things help me with writing?
I HATE silence. So music helps me fill that unbearable gap.
Chocolate is delicious...and the best pick me up a gal could ask for.
Movies/TV shows all provide me with lots of inspiration and more stories/characters to love. I wouldn't be who I am today if I had never discovered Buffy, or Tracey Flick, or Walter Bishop, or Scar, I wouldn't be who I am today. Seriously.
Twitter helps me because the whole writing community seems to live on there! If I need a tweet of encouragement or want to know what's going on in the writing world, all I have to do is log-in! Plus, I also now have a penchant for hashtagging haha
Grad school and not cleaning help me whenever I need a distraction from writing...or, sometimes, they provide me with a random AHA! moment that helps me along with whatever I'm working on.
So, yeah, that's prettyyyyyyyyy much it!
Happy Birthday!!! 23 was a great year, so don't listen to Blink 182. That was so 1999, anyway. 2012 is a whole different story. LOL
ReplyDeletehahaha I'll keep that in mind :P Thanks for the birthday wishes!!!
DeleteOhh, chocolate works in amazing ways. My muse teases me with chocolate until I have at least 100 hours down. Then she breaks of little pieces for me to nibble on until I have more.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday. :)
chocolate is seriously the best thing ever :) I'm glad so many people enjoy it/also use it when they write!
Deletethanks for the birthday wish :)
I miss 23. That was the year my daughter was born. Now she's 17 and I'm 40... *wipes tears* Happy birthday! Hope your 23rd year is as wonderful as mine was.
ReplyDeleteLove that music is on your list, it's one of my therapies too.
aww that's awesome! I'm glad you had an awesome 23 :) And thanks! I hope mine is as fulfilling as yours!
DeleteMusic is amazing!!! I dont know what I'd do without it!
i recently discovered dark chocolate with toasted coconut in it. um yeah, it's bliss. i'm also a music junkie, especially when drafting. happy b-day :)
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, I want to try this like right now! Did you find it at a store/from a certain company?!?
Deleteyay for fellow music junkies!!! thanks for the birthday wish :)
Hey! Jolene here from www.penandmuse.com !
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! I knew I had to post on your blog the second I saw the Blink reference. They've been my favorite band since 6th grade. Hehe.
I love your writing muses. I'm all for chocolate and great music! I definitely agree. I can't get into writing in complete silence. Who are your favorite bands to listen to while writing?
haha that Blink song has been in my head ALL DAY (not that its a bad thing!). Thanks for the birthday wish!
Deleteand hmm my favorite bands are (in no apparent order) Maroon 5, Paramore, Muse, broadway soundtracks (not really a band, but...yeah...). Not band - Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Jack Johnson, Missy Higgins...
what about you?!?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I CANNOT write in silence. It drives me crazy. I usually just tune out what I'm listening to anyways, but I grew up in a family with 6 kids and so I'm used to lots of noise. And on the chocolate - that is totally my therapy sometimes! I have a bag of m&ms in my desk drawer, and when I hit a rough scene, I totally have a few to get me through it. Yum!
thank you!!!
Deleteand I totally agree - I grew up in a house where there was always noise, so even when I'm studying or doing other scholarly school things, I have to have music...or I'll go crazy!
Chocolate got me through a few really sad scenes haha
I must have music when writing, it helps encase me in the world I'm writing in by blocking other noises.
ReplyDeleteAnd chocolate... oh look here, a chocolate dipped sweet and salty peanut bar! Nom nom nom.
woohoo! I love how many people love music and chocolate :)
DeleteChocolate. Sweet nectar of the gods, isn't it? Great post. Most of those things are right along the same lines as me (except the music part...I am beginning to think I am the *different* one on this blog hop. LOL)
ReplyDeleteAnd Happy Birthday!
thanks for the birthday wish :)
Deleteand its ok to be different! everyone has different ways of doing things haha :P
oh, and chocolate is totally sweet nectar of the gods!
Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteChocolate seems to be a favorite among all the hoppers today! I'm a sour foods girl, actually. Dill pickles are my stress food of choice.
That's because chocolate is AWESOME. haha
DeleteThat's interesting...I don't think I've ever encountered a sour food stress eater before - but that's pretty cool :)
Great post and Happy Birthday! I heart Walter Bishop, too.
ReplyDeleteWalter Bishop is SO AMAZING that there aren't enough words to describe his level of amazingness. :P
DeleteThanks for the birthday wish!
